Insp Hughes said: “Always be suspicious if an ATM swallows your card. It is believed that just one person has used the city centre ATM with the skimming device in place and police believe the individual has been identified. Tell tale signs that one has been installed on a cash point is the angle of the card reader, whether it is movable and if it looks different to neighbouring ATMs. Skimming devices are placed on top of an ATM’s card reader in a bid to steal a person’s card details and pin number.
